Bluegill abundance in West Frankfort New City Lake in 2015 was high and similar to the previous year. Quality of these fish was relatively good with 72% larger than 6 inches and excellent body condition, but none were larger than the 7-inch mark.

Fair numbers of channel catfish were included in the 2015 survey, and sizes ranged from 17 to 28 inches with excellent body condition. The channel catfish population of West Frankfort New City Lake is maintained by supplemental stockings every other year. Site Regulation: 6 per day creel.

Fair numbers of white crappie were included in the 2015 West Frankfort New City Lake sample, and these fish all ranged from 6 to 11 inches in length. Body condition was of the smallest fish was good, but larger individuals were thinner than desired, an indication of an overcrowded condition relative to the available food supply. Black crappie collected ranged from 6 to 8 inches in length with substandard body condition.

Largemouth bass were found in West Frankfort New City Lake in adequate numbers in spring 2015, and body condition of these fish was excellent. 56% were larger than 12 inches, 33% were over 15 inches, and 14% exceeded 18 inches in length. Site Regulation: 15 inch length limit and 3 per day creel.

Location: West Frankfort New City Lake is located approximately 5 miles east of West Frankfort, Illinois and just south of Route 149 in Franklin County.

Description: West Frankfort New City Lake is a 214-acre city-owned impoundment. The lake is mostly surrounded by homes and has a concrete boat ramp.
