Bluegill abundance and quality increased compared to the previous year. Quality of these fish easily met the management plan goal, with 55% over 6 inches and 12% exceeding 7 inches in length. Bluegill also displayed excellent body condition.

No channel catfish were included in the 2015 sampling of Sesser City Reservoir, but these fish ranged in size from 18 to 25 inches the previous year. The Sesser City Reservoir channel catfish population is maintained by IDNR stockings every other year. Site Regulation: 6 per day creel limit.

White and black crappie collected in spring 2015 ranged from 7 to 10 inches in length, and body condition was substandard.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Largemouth bass were found in Sesser City Reservoir in fair to good numbers at the time of the spring 2015 survey. Largemouth bass were collected at a rate that easily met the general management plan goal of 60 per hour and represented an increase compared to the previous year. Quality of bass, however, decreased slightly, although it still met the management plan goal. 54% were larger than 12 inches, 4% were over 15 inches, and no bass exceeded the 18-inch minimum size limit. Bass body condition remained very good. Site Regulation: 18 inch length limit and 1 per day creel limit.

REDEAR SUNFISH

Redear were not as common as bluegill in 2015. The fish collected were between 7.5 and 8.5 inches in length with excellent body condition.

Location: Sesser City Reservoir is a relatively fertile and shallow, 20-acre, city-owned impoundment.

Description: Sesser City Reservoir is mostly surrounded by woods and has a gravel ramp.
