The catch-per-unit-effort for bluegill in Herrin #2 Lake was the second highest in the previous 5 years. Bluegill quality also decreased somewhat, with 31% of fish in the 2015 sample larger than 6 inches in length, but this index still easily met the management plan goal. Bluegill body condition dropped below the acceptable range.

Generally few channel catfish are collected from Herrin #2 Lake during spring electrofishing surveys, and 2015 was no exception. Catfish ranging in size from 15 to 19 inches were included in the sample. The channel catfish population in Herrin #2 Lake is maintained by IDNR stockings, which occur every other year. Site Regulation: 6 per day creel limit.

Both white and black crappie exist in Herrin Lake #2, but these fish don’t always show up in annual surveys. Only one white crappie was included in the 2015 electrofishing sample, and this fish was approximately 6 inches in length with excellent body condition.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Good

0.8 lbs

Largemouth bass were collected at a rate nearly identical to the previous year and twice the management plan goal. Of these, 48% were larger than 12 inches, which met the goal for quality, and 20% were longer than the 15-inch minimum size limit. Bass body condition was slightly less than the management plan goal. Site Regulation: 15 inch length limit and 3 per day creel limit.
