Description
Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area covers more than 2,500 acres of land and water bodies. There are approximately 34 bodies of water on the site over 1 acre in size, not including Lake McMaster. These small ponds and lakes total over 198 acres of water. They can be reached from parking areas that surround the perimeter of the property. These parking areas connect to an internal gravel road system that allows public foot traffic or bicycle use.Fishery History
Most of the ponds on the site are composed of a sportfish population that is dominated by Largemouth, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, Black Crappie and Channel Catfish. Northwest Lake #1: 6.5 acres and has a very good Bluegill and Redear Sunfish population. Treatment Pond #2: 1.8 acres. Beaver Pond #3: At 4.8 acres, this pond has an average Bluegill, Redear Sunfish and Largemouth Bass population. It also has a population of Bowfin. Middle Beaver Pond #4: A 2 acre shallow wetland pond. South Beaver Pond #5: A 3.5 acre shallow wetland pond. Dragonfly Pond #6: A 2.2 acre shallow wetland pond. Slurry Pond #7: A 1.7 acre shallow wetland pond. Freshwater Lake #8: A 16 acre, deep strip-mine lake with a good Largemouth Bass population and average Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population. It also has a low density Muskie population. Teal Lake #9: A 7.5 acre, shallow wetland lake that has an average Largemouth Bass and Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population. It also has a population of Bowfin. Longdam Pond #10: A 1.9 acre shallow pond with a good Bluegill, Redear Sunfish and Largemouth Bass population. Willow Pond #11: A 2.4 acre pond that has an average Largemouth Bass population and a good Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population. Felix Pond #12: A 5.8 acre pond that is deep and steep and has very clear water. It has an average Bluegill, Redear Sunfish and Largemouth Bass populations. Finger Lake #13: A 15.8 acre lake that contains multiple shallow coves. It has a good Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population and an average Largemouth Bass population. Cottontail Pond #14: A 3 acre pond that is shallow and surrounded by dense phragmites grass. It has a good Bluegill and Redear Sunfish population, and an average Largemouth Bass population. Ringneck Pond #15: A 3.75 acre pond that is steep and deep with very clear water. It has an average Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population and an average Largemouth Bass population. North Muskrat Lake #16: An 8.8 acre shallow lake that is surrounded by phragmites grass. Goose Pond #17: A 1.2 acre pond that contains a stunted Largemouth Bass population. Woodduck Pond #18: A 2 acre pond. Timber Pond #19: A 3 acre pond that is surrounded by trees. Middle Muskrat Lake #20: An 8 acre lake that is surrounded by phragmites grass. South Muskrat Lake #21: A 10.8 acre, shallow wetland that is surrounded by phragmites grass. Deer Pond #22: A 1.2 acre pond. Sky Pond #23: A 1.1 acre pond. Pintail Pond #24: A 1.6 pond that is surrounded by cattails and phragmites grass. It has a population of Smallmouth Bass and average Bluegill population. Pasture Pond #25: A 4.8 acre, shallow pond that is surrounded by willow trees and phragmites grass. It has an average bass population and a good Bluegill population. Deep Pond #26: A 1 acre pond. North Coyote Pond #27: A 1.5 acre, shallow pond that is surrounded by willow trees and phragmites grass. It has a stunted Bluegill and Black Crappie population. Marsh Lake #28: An 8 acre lake that has a good Largemouth Bass, Bluegill and Redear Sunfish population. Crosscut Pond #29: A 4 acre, shallow pond that is a series of connected narrow channels. Long Pond #30: A 5.1 acre pond that is very steep and deep with clear water. It has an average population of Bluegill/Redear Sunfish and Largemouth Bass. Upper Long Pond #31: A 3.5 acre pond. Lake Victoria #32: A 26 acre lake that is long and linear. It has a very good Bluegill/Redear Sunfish, Black Crappie, Largemouth Bass and Channel Catfish populations. Turkey Lake #33: 23.2 acre lake that is long and linear. It has a good Bluegill/Redear Sunfish population and an average Largemouth Bass population. Bear Claw Pond #34: 4.8 acre pond that is shallow and surrounded by phragmites grass.Site Regulations
All use other than waterfowl hunting is prohibited from 14 days prior to the start of the regular duck season through the end of the central zone Canada goose season.
Site-Specific Fishing Regulations:
- Recreational Use Restriction: Waterfowl Refuge or Hunting Area (see above)
- All Fish: 2 pole and line fishing only and each pole must not have more than 2 hooks or lures attached while fishing
- All live bait greater than 8 inches must be rigged with a quick set rig
- Bluegill or Redear Sunfish: 25 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Channel Catfish: 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Large or Smallmouth Bass: Protected Slot Length Limit with no possession of fish greater than or equal to 14 inches and less than 18 inches; 3 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Muskie: Protected Slot Length Limit with 1 fish greater than or equal to 36 inches and less than 42 inches or 1 fish greater than or equal to 48 inches
- Walleye, Sauger, or Hybrid Walleye: 14 inch Minimum Length Limit; 3 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- White, Black, or Hybrid Crappie: 25 Fish Daily Harvest Limit with no more than 10 fish greater than or equal to 10 inches
