In 2024, Bluegill were captured at a rate of 144 fish per hour of electrofishing. Fish ranged from less than 1” to 7.6”. No 8” fish were collected in 2024, which is likely explained by the 2023 fish kill. In 2022, Bluegill were collected at a catch rate of 156 fish/hour of electrofishing with 20 Bluegill measuring over 7” and 4 over 8”. This pond has an outstanding Bluegill fishery.
Channel Catfish
Good
Channel Catfish were last stocked in this pond in September 2025. IDNR will stock Channel Catfish as hatchery production allows.
Largemouth Bass
Good
2024 electrofishing yielded 10 (40.0/hour) Largemouth Bass ranging from 3.5-11.7”. The 2023 fish kill likely explains the lower sample size and the lack of larger fish in the 2024 survey. The 2022 catch rate of 64 fish/hour of electrofishing meets the management goal (≥60 bass/hour). The 2022 survey resulted in 16 Largemouth Bass being sampled, ranging from 4.6-21.6”. The largest fish sampled in 2022 measured 21.6” and weighed 5.3lbs.

Description
Siloam Springs State Park Buckhorn Unit was acquired by the State of Illinois in the Spring of 2001. There are two ponds on this site that are managed for sport fishing. Pond #1 is the larger of the two ponds.Fishery History

Site-Specific Fishing Regulations:
- All Fish: 2 pole and line fishing only and each pole must not have more than 2 hooks or lures attached while fishing
- Bluegill or Redear Sunfish: 8 inch Minimum Length Limit; 10 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Channel Catfish: 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Largemouth Bass: 18 inch Minimum Length Limit; 1 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
