Description

The Shawnee Community College Pond is a 4.5 acre impoundment managed to provide shore angling opportunities.  The perimeter of the pond is frequently mowed to provide easy access. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the southeast corner of the pond.

Fishery History

IDNR signed a cooperative fisheries management agreement with the College in 2025.  The pond is currently recovering from a significant low-oxygen fish kill that occurred in 2024.  An electrofishing survey during fall of 2025 indicated that Largemouth Bass and Bluegill populations are recovering, and that angling opportunities for these species will return to normal by 2027-2028.

Site Regulations

Statewide regulations currently apply.  However, site-specific regulations have been proposed and will become effective in 2027 if approved.
