Fishing Outlook
Channel Catfish
Average
Channel Catfish were not collected the last two spring electrofishing surveys despite several stockings in recent years. Site Regulation: 12-inch minimum length limit; 3 fish daily limit.
Bluegill
Very Good
The Bluegill catch rate, which was higher than it was in 2013, indicates a very abundant population. Bluegill ranged in length from 1.6 to 6.4 inches, with an average length of 4.6 inches. Only two fish in the sample were longer than six inches. Site Regulation: No minimum length limit; 25 fish daily limit.
Largemouth Bass
Average
Twenty Largemouth Bass were captured in our survey, which is a small sample size from which to make population level speculations. Eleven of the twenty fish were longer than twelve inches, suggesting fish capable of spawning are present in the sample. Bass ranged in length from 5.0 to 15.9 inches with the heaviest fish weighing 2.9 pounds. This lake’s connection to Salt Creek has allowed multiple forage species (gizzard shad, pumpkinseed, and golden shiner) entry into the lake to help diversify the diet of the Largemouth Bass. The lake was stocked with 250 four to eight inch Largemouth Bass in 2017 to supplement natural reproduction. Site Regulation: 14–18-inch protected slot limit; 4 fish daily creel limit with 3 fish that can be harvested under 14 inches and 1 fish 18 inches and larger.
Black Crappie
Average
Four Black Crappies were captured in this survey, and the largest crappie in the survey was 4.9 inches long. This lake is not stocked with or managed for crappie at this time. Small lakes in the area tend to show large fluctuations in crappie catch and they can overpopulate a lake easily without the proper predator balance. Site Regulation: No minimum length limit; 15 fish daily limit.

Description
Green Lake is a 9-acre dug flood control pond in the Cricket Creek Forest Preserve. It receives road runoff from Route 83 and is periodically flooded by Salt Creek. Green Lake has an hourglass shape and each of its basins have been equipped with several fish attractors to create structural habitat for invertebrates and fish. The lake has a maximum depth of 10.0 feet, an average depth of 6.0 feet, and a storage capacity of 54.1 acre-feet of water at normal water level. There is a crushed limestone walking/bike path around the lake for access from the two parking areas. There are two other ponds at the forest preserve, Stonewort Pond and Riverbend Pond.Fishery History
Green Lake has been under management by the FPDDC Fishery Ecologist to provide a quality sport fishing opportunity. In 1984, the FPDDC entered into a Cooperative Management Agreement with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to facilitate management activities. The fish community in this pond is sampled every 4 years. Largemouth Bass and Channel Catfish are stocked when needed. Green Lake has a fairly low abundance of Largemouth Bass and a very abundant Bluegill population. The lake is over-populated with Common Carp. Easy shore access and fish attractors should provide ample opportunities for a quality fishing experience. In addition to species listed above, also present in this lake are Gizzard Shad, Green Sunfish, Goldfish, Pumpkinseed, Redear Sunfish, Black Bullhead and Yellow Bullhead.Site Regulations
