Lou Yeager, Lake
Location 1268 acres
Fishing Outlook
Bluegill
Good
For an impoundment of this size and considering competition with younger Bluegill from Gizzard Shad, this fish group does fairly well. We saw good numbers of Bluegill in the 6” to 7” range, and collected this species up to 7.5”. Usually under these conditions, Bluegill struggle to attain 6”. If the bass population strengthens, this fishery could improve even more over time.
Largemouth Bass
Developing
Lake Lou Yaeger has a weak Largemouth Bass population. Numbers are subpar, yet size structure is fairly solid, with fish from 3" to 19" being sampled. The largest bass measured 19”, and topped the scale at 4.1 lbs. Largemouth are stocked annually via the state hatchery system with hopes to improve the population over time. Approximately 20,000 have been stocked in both 2022 and 2023. Site Regulation: 15” minimum length limit; 3 fish per day creel limit.
Channel Catfish
Very Good
Only 7 catfish were sampled this year ranging from 13” to 20”. Natural reproduction is occurring in this lake, which should ensure decent fishing into the future. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily creel limit.
White Crappie
Good
White Crappie are doing fairly well in Lake Lou Yaeger. The majority of individuals collected were in the 6.5” to 9” category. The largest Crappie captured was just shy of 12”, and weighed 13 ounces. Densities are high, and it looks as though this group is rebuilding as smaller fish increase/larger fish decrease in numbers. Continued harvest by anglers is needed to reduce competition and allow smaller fish to move up through the length range rather quickly.
