Description

This lake, along with Sag Quarry West is an old limestone quarry. The east quarry is 17 acres in size and has a maximum water depth of 17.1 feet.

Fishery History

Species found here include Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, crappie, bullheads and Common Carp. A small population of Grass Pickerel resides here and may be confused with young Northern Pike. Sag Quarry East is part of the Rainbow Trout Program and now gets stocked with Rainbow Trout in both the spring and fall. This lake suffered a severe fish kill during the winter of 2013-14. An extensive stocking program is being carried out by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Site Regulations

Sag Quarry East is a designated ice fishing lake.

Site-Specific Fishing Regulations:

  • All Fish: 2 pole and line fishing only and each pole must not have more than 2 hooks or lures attached while fishing; no minnow seines, minnow traps, cast nets or shad scoops allowed
  • Bluegill, Redear, or Pumpkinseed Sunfish: 15 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
  • Large or Smallmouth Bass: 14 inch Minimum Length Limit; 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
  • Trout: Fall Closed Season; Spring Closed Season; 5 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
  • White, Black, or Hybrid Crappie: 15 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
