The Channel Catfish population is good. Twelve catfish were collected in the 2016 survey ranging in size from 13 – 21 inches. Channel Catfish are stocked annually and have been collected in each of the last 4 surveys. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily limit.
Crappie spp.
Average
This lake has an average crappie population consisting of both black and white crappie. Of the 9 crappie collected in the 2016 survey, 2 were over nine inches.
Bluegill
Average
The Bluegill population is average. Although 7 inch Bluegill are present, no Bluegill over eight inches have been collected in the last four fisheries surveys. Site Regulation: 15 fish daily limit.
Largemouth Bass
Excellent
This lake has an excellent bass population. Of the 59 bass collected during the 2016 fall electrofishing sample, 53% were over 15 inches, 42% were over 16 inches, and 17% were over 18 inches. Site Regulation: 6 fish daily limit, 15" minimum length limit.

Electric trolling motors are the only boat motors allowed on Sparta Old City Reservoir (South).
Site-Specific Fishing Regulations:
- All Fish: 2 pole and line fishing only and each pole must not have more than 2 hooks or lures attached while fishing
- Bluegill or Redear Sunfish: 15 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Channel Catfish: 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
- Large or Smallmouth Bass: 15 inch Minimum Length Limit; 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit
