Pyramid State Park - Gadwall Lake
Location 12 acres
Fishing Outlook
Bluegill
Fair
Based on the initial electrofishing survey completed in 2024, Bluegill growth potential is limited in Gadwall Lake due to competition with Gizzard Shad and Common Carp, in addition to poor habitat (high turbidity). Out of 63 Bluegill collected during the survey, only two exceeded 7" in length, the largest measuring 7.4".
Largemouth Bass
Good
Based on the initial electrofishing survey completed in 2024, bass growth potential is relatively good in Gadwall Lake, as bass in the sample ranged in length from 14" to 19". Relative weights (plumpness) were very high for bass over 16", which is likely attributed to a dense stock of large Gizzard Shad. Although bass growth potential seems desirable, the electrofishing catch rate was low and indicates limited bass recruitment, which is not uncommon in small, turbid lakes with abundant Gizzard Shad and Common Carp. In summary, anglers can expect opportunities for big bass, but not in high numbers.
Black Crappie
Good
Only four Black Crappie were captured during the initial electrofishing survey of Gadwall Lake in 2024. However, two of these crappie measured 11.6" and 11.7", indicating desirable growth potential for angling.

Description
Gadwall Lake is a 12-acre strip mine lake located within the Captain Unit of Pyramid State Park. There is a gravel boat launch, but no dock or bathroom facilities. The parking area is limited.Fishery History
The initial fish population assessment for Gadwall Lake was completed during 2024, and it consisted of a 10-minute electrofishing survey. Survey results indicate a quality bass fishery with a desirable size structure. A few Black Crappie were also collected and demonstrated good growth potential. The Bluegill size structure was poor due to the presence of Gizzard Shad and Common Carp, in addition to a lack of aquatic vegetation.Site Regulations
There is no motor horsepower limit at Pyramid, however all boats must be operated at no-wake speed.
Fishing is prohibited from November 1 through the last day of February.
