Giant City State Park - Eagle Pond
Location 2.5 acres
Fishing Outlook
Redear Sunfish
Excellent
During the 2024 electrofishing survey, a total of 4 Redear were collected, measuring from 8.8" to 10.5" in length. The current population structure for Redear is desirable in Eagle Pond, as the primary management goal is to provide a quality fishery for Bluegill and Redear, with opportunities for Bluegill over 8" and Redear over 9".
Largemouth Bass
Good
During the 2024 spring electrofishing survey, a total of 59 Largemouth Bass were collected. The majority of bass were between 10 and 14 inches in length. The largest bass was nearly 20 inches in length. The electrofishing catch rate for Largemouth Bass was very high at 354/hour, which is desirable in this case and exceeded the management goal of 200/hour. A high density bass population is desirable in pond environments to thin out Bluegill and Redear, which increases their growth rate and produces a desirable panfish size structure. The current density and size structure of bass in Eagle Pond is desirable and is the primary driver behind the presence of 8-9" Bluegill and 10" Redear.
Channel Catfish
Good
During the 2024 electrofishing survey, 11 Channel Catfish were collected, ranging in length from 7.4 to nearly 20.1 inches. The fishery for Channel Catfish is maintained by annual stockings and is popular among anglers at Giant City State Park.
Bluegill
Excellent
During the 2024 electrofishing survey, a total of 33 Bluegill were collected, several of which were over 8". The largest Bluegill was 8.7" and individuals over 9" have been captured during past surveys. The current population structure for Bluegill is desirable in Eagle Pond, as the primary management goal is to provide a quality fishery for Bluegill and Redear, with opportunities for Bluegill over 8" and Redear over 9".
