Description

Wesseln Lake is a relatively fertile 35-acre strip mine lake.  There is a gravel boat launch and dock in addition to a camping area adjacent to the lake.

Fishery History

Wesseln Lake supports good fisheries for Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, and Channel Catfish.  Channel Catfish are stocked annually to ensure consistent recruitment.  Bluegill and Redear Sunfish are abundant but demonstrate poor growth potential, likely due to a dense stock of Gizzard Shad.  During 2024, annual stockings of Saugeye and Hybrid Striped Bass fingerlings were initiated to provide additional predatory control of Gizzard Shad and small sunfish.  The survival and growth of these stocked fish will be evaluated over the next few years.
