Description

There are three separate ponds of approximately 1 acre each in size with maximum depths of 10 feet. Most of the shoreline is accessible at each pond.

Fishery History

Due to the extreme amount of rainfall that fell across northern Illinois in April 2013, most waterways in the area experienced flood events. As a result of Nettle Creek flooding, the I&M Canal aqueduct at Nettle Creek failed. This resulted in drastically reduced water levels to the east of the aqueduct and complete dewatering of the canal to the west. The ponds at Gebhard Woods, which were reliant on the canal for make-up water, went dry as a consequence of this event. The ponds will re-impound once the aqueduct can be restored.
