Fishing Outlook
Channel Catfish
Very Good
Redhead Lake is home to a quality Channel Catfish fishery. Big Channel Cats are frequently captured during surveys. The largest collected during the 2023 survey was 28 inches long and weighed 10.4 lbs.
Crappie spp.
Very Good
The majority of Crappie in Redhead Lake are White Crappie, with a smaller number of Black Crappie and hybrids present. White Crappie demonstrate excellent growth potential in Redhead Lake. During the 2023 survey, there were several Crappie over 12 inches collected, two of which were over 14 inches and about 1.7 lbs. Several brush piles have been sunk into the lake to provide structure for Crappie anglers.
Bluegill
Average
Bluegill are abundant in Redhead Lake. The majority of Bluegill collected during surveys are between 4 and 7 inches. About 17% of Bluegill captured during the 2023 electrofishing survey were between 7 and 8 inches, but none were over 8 inches.
Walleye x Sauger (Saugeye)
Developing
Saugeye have been stocked annually since 2024. A night electrofishing survey was completed during fall of 2025 to evaluate survival and growth of stocked Saugeye. The survey yielded a catch rate of 10/hour, with Saugeye in the sample ranging in length from 12.6 to 14.7 inches. In summary, results from the survey suggest the population is developing well and that anglers can expect opportunities to harvest legal-size (>14") Saugeye.
Largemouth Bass
Good
In general, the Largemouth Bass population in Redhead Lake is characterized by a high abundance of small bass under 12 inches, with a small proportion of larger individuals. During the 2025 spring electrofishing survey, bass were captured at a very high rate 270/hour, the majority or which were between 5 and 9 inches in length. Only 11.8% of bass were over 15 inches, while 3.1% were over 18 inches. The largest bass collected was 20.5 inches and weighed 6.4 lbs. Body condition (relative weight) was relatively low among bass under 12 inches but generally increased with increasing length. Mean relative weights generally exceeded the management target of 90 once bass reached 16 inches.
Striped Bass x White Bass (Wiper)
Very Good
Redhead Lake has been stocked periodically with Hybrid Striped Bass (Wipers) since 2015 and currently supports a quality fishery with fish up to 11 lbs. present. During the spring of 2025, a total of 16 were captured in gill nets and 68 were captured while electrofishing. Wipers in the sample ranged from 18.0 to 25.8 inches in length, the largest weighing in at 9.7 lbs. The most recent stocking was in 2025. Future stockings will occur each year that sufficient numbers are available from the state hatchery system.

Description
The only facilities offered at this 55-acre lake is a gravel boat ramp. Parking is limited and anglers should check the condition of the ramp before attempting to launch at this lake.Fishery History
A multi-gear sportfish survey is completed at Redhead Lake on a biennial basis. The lake supports good fisheries for Largemouth Bass, crappie, Channel Catfish, and Hybrid Striped Bass (Wiper). Based on survey data, stocked Hybrid Striped Bass demonstrate good survival and growth potential, which has led to a quality fishery with fish over 10 pounds present. Given the abundance of shad and success of the Wiper stocking program, Saugeye stockings began in 2024 and have already produced legal-size fish (14") as of fall 2025.Site Regulations
