During the 2025 electrofishing survey, a total of 30 Redear were collected, several of which measured over 9 inches. The largest Redear was 9.7 inches and weighed slightly over half a pound. Mean Redear body condition exceeded the management at 91. In summary, the Redear fishery in Deer Pond is of good quality and complements the Bluegill fishery.
Bluegill
Excellent
During the 2025 electrofishing survey, a total of 51 Bluegill were collected, several of which measured over 8 inches. The largest Bluegill was 8.8 inches and weighed nearly half a pound. Mean Bluegill body condition exceeded the management at 97, indicating fast growth. In summary, the Bluegill fishery in Deer Pond is considered excellent, possessing both good numbers and size.
Largemouth Bass
Good
During the 2025 electrofishing survey, Largemouth Bass were captured at a high rate of 233/hour, exceeding the management target of 200/hour. Bass in the sample ranged in length from 6.3 to 14.2 inches. Although growth potential is limited, the observed high density of small bass is desirable in this case, as it is the primary driver of Bluegill and Redear growth.
Channel Catfish
Good
Two Channel Catfish (3.7 and 3.8 lbs.) were collected during the 2025 electrofishing survey. The fishery for Channel Catfish is popular among anglers at Giant City State Park and is maintained by annual stockings.

Description
Deer Pond is a 1-acre impoundment located just across the road from the lodge in Giant City State Park. The perimeter of the pond is mowed periodically to allow access to anglers. The pond can be accessed by a short walk through site-maintained trails.Fishery History
The most recent electrofishing survey of Deer Pond occurred during June of 2025. Deer Pond offers good opportunities for shore anglers to target quality-size Bluegill and Redear Sunfish, in addition to Largemouth Bass, and Channel Catfish. Non-vulnerable size (8- to 10-inch) Channel Catfish are stocked annually to maintain a fishery for them.Site Regulations
