Species

Rank

Fish Status

BLUEGILL

Average

In 2021, 32 Bluegill were collected measuring from 4.8-7.2”. The Bluegill population is represented by fish less than 7”. Bluegill struggle to break the 7” in lakes that have Gizzard Shad present due to competition for food resources.

CHANNEL CATFISH

Good

Channel Catfish have not been collected since the 2017 survey. The lake receives 750-850 7-9” Channel Catfish on a every other year stocking schedule. Channel Catfish are more effectively sampled using nets, so it is not surprising that this species is not represented in electrofishing surveys.

CRAPPIE

Good

Black and White Crappie are present in White Hall City Lake. Neither species are detected in high numbers during electrofishing surveys. Eight White Crappie were collected during the electrofishing survey in 2021. Fish measured 8.7-10.9” and weighed up to 0.67lbs. 50.0% of the catchable population exceeded 10”. One Black Crappie was collected in 2021 and it measured 9.1”. In 2019, the electrofishing survey yielded four 7.7-8.6” White Crappie and six 8.9-10.7” Black Crappie.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Very Good

The Largemouth Bass population at White Hall City Lake remains very good. The 2021 spring electrofishing survey resulted in a lower catch rate of Largemouth Bass (CPUE=120) compared to 2019 (CPUE=270). Largemouth Bass catch rates have met or exceeded the lake management goals since 2017. Weather conditions, water level, and water temperature can affect sampling results. In 2021, Largemouth Bass ranged from 5.1-19.8” and weighed up to 3.5lbs. 8.8% of the catchable Largemouth Bass population exceeded 15” in length. In 2019, 8.3% of the catchable population measured 15” or greater, and 6.2% measured 18” or more. The 2019 sample consisted of fish measuring 4.6-20.1” and weighing up to 4.5lbs. Results from the 2017 survey represented bass measuring 4.0-21.0” and weighing up to 5.3lbs. The 5.3lb bass is the heaviest fish collected in recent years. The current Largemouth Bass harvest regulation of 6 Fish Daily Harvest Limit, no length limit remains to be an appropriate regulation for this lake.
