Tackle Loaner Program
The Illinois "Access to Fishing" fishing pole loaner program was started in 1997 and remains a unique way for anglers to try fishing without having to buy equipment. Fishing poles that were purchased by IDNR or donated to the IDNR have been placed in establishments throughout Illinois, such as in libraries, lake-side concession stands, bait stores, etc.
This equipment is available to be borrowed at no cost and is handled much like checking out and returning a library book. Tackle packets (containing hooks, sinkers, a bobber, etc.) and instructional fishing literature are also available at no cost for users to keep when they borrow a fishing pole. This program is available to any Illinois angler of Illinois who is interested in going fishing!
This program is also perfect for those anglers who find themselves with a few extra neighborhood children who'd like to come along on a fishing trip, but don't have enough poles to accommodate everyone. Each child/person will be provided with a pole (as available) through this program.
