Excellent | Many fish reported and collected during electro fishing surveys are 20 inches or better. A daily catch limit of six fish applies. | |
Fair | Anglers should target crappie around structure using minnows and jigs. Currently there are no size or creel limits for crappie at Harrisburg New City Reservoir. | |
Very Good | Many fish between 2 to 3 pounds are present, and bass fishing is expected to be good to excellent. Currently there are no size restrictions for bass and the creel limit is 6 fish per day. | |
Location: The reservoir is located approximately one mile east of Galatia in the wooded rolling terrain in Saline County.
Description: Harrisburg New City Reservoir has a surface area of 209.0 acres and maximum depth of 30.0 feet. Shoreline areas are shallow and the reservoir has a shoreline length of 6.5 miles with a watershed of approximately 2000 acres. Harrisburg New City Reservoir was impounded in 1955 to create the reservoir and provide a public water source. Currently the City of Harrisburg receives well water, eliminating the reservoir as a primary or secondary water source.
History and Status of the Sport Fishery: Recent survey data suggests Harrisburg New City Reservoir is currently supporting a balanced fishery. Catchable populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and redear sunfish are present in the reservoir.
